Richard ‘Dick’ DeLong

V. Richard “Dick” DeLong, age 83 of Hudson, WI died Friday, June 9, 2017 at his home at Red Cedar Canyon. Dick was born December 16, 1933, in Westerville, OH. After high school he served in the United States Navy. On August 14, 1959, he married Betty Gibson of Dayton, OH. In 1966, they moved to Rhinelander, WI, where Dick established Rhinelander Appliance Center and worked until his retirement. in 2001, after Betty retired from teaching, they moved to Hudson to become “full-time” grandparents.

Over the years, Dick was involved with: The Boy Scouts of America, Trout Unlimited, the Rhinelander Bowling League, the Organization for Wildlife Learning, and the Hudson United Methodist Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed trout fishing, camping, and woodworking.

He is survived by his children, Andrew DeLong and the Rev. Amy DeLong (Val Zellmer); grandchildren, Bronté (Tyke) Pierce, Jessica Wolf, and Travis Wolf. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and his parents.

Dick’s life will be celebrated in a private family Memorial Service. Memorials are preferred to the Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Park, 1034 County Road A, Hudson, WI 54016.
