Don Charles Bartels, age 81, passed away into our Lord’s loving arms on September 26, 2017. Formerly of Minneapolis, MN, born in Kasota, MN on April 5, 1936. Don spent the last 3 years of his life living at Pine Ridge Gardens Memory Care, within Christian Community Homes in Hudson, WI. He forged many friendships with residents and caregivers alike. Don spent many hours with his fellow residents in a rowdy game of cards or light hearted conversation. He engaged people and could always bring about a smile with his witty banter, lively sense of humor and magnetic personality. Don led a full life and never lost his sense of adventure and love of travel, always wanting to take one last road trip.

Survived by caregivers, sister Kathy (Dave) Kittel of Afton, MN, and niece Wendy (Rich) Jenkins of Star Prairie, WI. Also survived by nephew Warren (Penni) Eastwood of Hudson, WI and many other nieces and nephews and family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Kodytek), mother Mabel Vichorek (Huntley- Bartels) , father Lewis Patrick Bartels, step-father Isadore “Chic” Vichorek, sister Bonnie Richardson, brother Lewis George Bartel.

Special thanks to the staff at Pine Ridge Gardens that were like family to Don and also to Lakeview Hospice for making such a difficult time easier.

A memorial service will be held at the O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St, Hudson, WI on Saturday, October 7 at 11:30 AM with visitation one hour prior. Luncheon to follow. Private burial. Memorials preferred to CCH Pine Ridge Gardens Memory Care or Lakeview Hospice.
