Robert “Bob” McDaniel

Robert “Bob” McDaniel, age 77, passed away on January 3, 2018, in River Falls, WI. Robert was born on June 25, 1940, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, the son of John “Jack” and Marion (Altman) McDaniel. On April 11, 1964, he was united in marriage to Sharon Proulx; their union was soon blessed with a daughter, Susan.

Bob enjoyed many labor-intensive and constructive projects; he often reminisced about working on both large and small wooden boats during his time at the Sunnyside Marina. He owned and operated a small gas station on the frontage road in Stillwater until 1968; after moving on from the gas station, Bob worked for Ron Schoenborn at Schoenborn Insurance Agency in Oak Park Heights. After moving to Roberts in 1976, Bob began to rent out VHS players and movies out of his home, as he preferred to work independently; he subsequently opened three video stores in Roberts, Baldwin, and Hudson. After his retirement from the video store business, Bob enjoyed volunteering for PressEnter in River Falls; he appreciated the process of being able to connect other people to the internet, often for the first time.

Bob had an intuitive love for corvettes; he became a co-founder of the St. Croix Valley Corvette Association in 1973 in order to share his appreciation and preservation of “America’s only true sports car.” Bob also had a profound interest in both CB and Ham Radio communication; he performed maintenance on various CB radios and often contacted people around the world after becoming a certified Ham Radio Operator.

Bob will remain in the hearts of his daughter, Susan “Suzi” Quaderer; grandson, Zachary Quaderer; niece, Mary Holm; nephew, Mark (Terri) McDaniel; numerous extended family as well as dear friends, Ian & Dodie Patrick, and Don Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John “Jack” McDaniel.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, January 16 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI, with a memorial service for Bob to be held at 6 PM. Memorials preferred to the discretion of the family.
