Thomas “Tom” Redner

Thomas H. Redner, age 76, of Hudson, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Tom was born May 1, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI, to Orris and Beulah (Borsack) Redner. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School and earned a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from Ripon College. Tom was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and neighbor across the street, Mary Higby, on June 27, 1964. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Leanne and Robert. Tom proudly served his country in the Army and was Honorably Discharged as a Captain. He worked for 3M for over 31 years, retiring in 2001 as a manager in their medical division.

Tom was an active member of the Hudson community. He served for many years on the Hudson City Council, the Police and Fire Commission, and was mayor of Hudson for four years. He served for 13 years as an EMT with St. Croix EMS, and was a member of the Willow River Cemetery Board. Tom was fond of trains and model railroading. He enjoyed building large train layouts filled with intricately assembled and hand painted buildings and scenery. Tom was delighted to help his grandchildren operate his trains. He was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan, an enthusiastic reader of Civil War history, and an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Tom was also a gifted woodworker who built large furniture pieces and many other beautiful items for family.

Tom will remain in the hearts of his wife of 53 years, Mary; daughter, Leanne (John) Van Allen; daughter-in-law, Leslie Redner; grandchildren, Morgan and Lily Van Allen, Danny and Abby Redner; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bob” Redner; his parents; and brother, Jerry Redner.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., with a short prayer at 8:00 p.m., on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. Private interment will take place at Willow River Cemetery of Hudson.  Memorials are preferred to the River Falls Area Hospital Foundation Cancer Program or Willow River Cemetery.
