Stephen Hensley

Steven W. Hensley, age 75 of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Steve was born on August 11, 1945 in Lake Park, Iowa to Glenn and Herma (Zahren) Hensley. He grew up helping on the farm in Lake Park, and later the family farm in Baldwin, Wisconsin when they relocated in 1959. Steve graduated from Baldwin High School and attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked as a host and entertainer at the Camelot Restaurant in Bloomington, Minnesota. Steve worked hard at everything he did, but truly relished entertaining for others. He got the opportunity to use his wonderful baritone voice to perform with Fred Warning & The Pennsylvanians, where he sang at venues across the country including Carnegie Hall. He later became a cast member at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in Florida where he delighted guests as a concierge and entertainer for over 15 years before moving to Tomah. Steve loved visits from his family and friends, which often led to him serenaded his guests with songs while playing the organ, and especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Steve will remain in the hearts of his siblings, Stan (Mary) Hensley of Menomonie, WI, and DeAnn Fern of Eau Claire, WI; nieces and nephews, Jamie (Brian Mingus) Elbert, Carma (Bryce) Moran, Katie Sanders, Timothy Fern, Gale Hensley, William Fern, and Scott Fern; great-nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Casey, Tessa, Alex, Kylie, and Aubrie; great-grand niece, Tilly; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie (Curtis) Pailsen; and nephew-in-law, Joey Elbert.

Services to celebrate Steve’s life are being planned. Memorials and cards for Steve’s family may be sent to: O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin, WI 54002.
