Maxine McConaughey

Maxine McConaughey, age 88, of Hudson, WI, passed away on Sunday October 10, 2021, at Red Cedar Canyon with family by her side. Maxine was born on October 14, 1932 in Houlton, WI, to parents Ralph and Evelyn (Menard) Anderson. She graduated from Stillwater High School with the class of 1950 and shortly after married her high school sweetheart Robert “Bob” McConaughey on June 29, 1950, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Bayport, MN. They were blessed with 6 children. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandma. Maxine worked as a waitress at Lowell Inn and also at Press On in Stillwater.

In her younger days she would often volunteer at her church and at the Phipps. She loved to tend to her flower garden and watch the birds; she had a huge appreciation for nature and loved to see new places. She and Bob went on many road trips in their RV and were able to visit all 50 states and most of Canada. She made a lovely home and she took great pride in always making sure everything was in its place. She enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and board games with her family and friends. She loved baking and decorated wedding cakes with her sister Phyllis for many years. She also bowled on a league with friends and enjoyed painting ceramics for her loved ones.

She is survived by her children: Cynthia (Raymond) Wichelman of Hudson, Timothy (Mary Jo) of Minong, Keith (Lori) of Woodville, and Tracy (Mike) Barr of Danbury; grandchildren: Jesse McConaughey, Jon McConaughey, Bobbi Jo Wichelman (Josh), Jacob Wichelman, Kurt (Melissa) Wichelman, Tanya McConaughey (Dan), Tamera (Jason) Johnson, Amber (Nathan) Lee, Erin (Aaron) Benson, Luke (Lizzie) Nygaard and Levi Nygaard (Ashley); 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis McConaughey and Karen (Gerald) York, sister-in-law Carol McConaughey and many cousins, relatives and friends.

Maxine is preceded in death by her husband Robert; sons Rodney and Brad; parents and siblings, Bruce Anderson, Barbara Anderson, and Yvonne Raymo.

A Funeral service for Maxine will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI. Visitation will be from 10-11am with the service starting at 11am.
