Dorothy Olson

Dorothy Ann (Detlefsen) Olson, age 90, of Hudson died Thursday August 27th at Hudson Hospital.

Dorothy was born on February 10, 1925 to Raymond and Anna (Anderson) Detlefsen, in Pontiac, MI. She was raised in Hudson, and graduated from Hudson High School in 1942. Dorothy served with the Women’s Army Corps during World War II as a medical clerk, medical technician and a truck driver. She was married to Howard Olson on June 6, 1947 in Hudson. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Greg, Jean, Gary, Jeff, Nancy, Janice and Jon. Dorothy attended Rasmussen Business College graduating in 1950. She worked as a secretary for Sears and was a bookkeeper at Art’s Auto Parts and for St. Croix County.

Dorothy was a caring and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family, especially all of her grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed cooking and baking, often helping in the kitchen at First Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. She also enjoyed crocheting, going for motorcycle rides, playing cards, sharing stories with her grandchildren and traveling. Over her lifetime, Dorothy cared for countless children and was known as ”Grandma”” to many. Dorothy was a loving and accepting friend to everyone; always ready to extend words of encouragement and a hug to all.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Greg (Gloria) Olson of Albuquerque NM, Jean (Bruce) Dowler of Hudson, Gary (Rosa) Olson of Prescott, Jeff Olson of Lake St. Croix Beach MN, Nancy (Dean) Phillips of Hudson, Janice (Ryan) Nelson of Hudson, and Jon (Kathy) Olson of Hudson; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Marie Olson; Harold and Ann Olson; Josh, Candace (Bryan) Kuhl, and Cassandra Phillips; Nick, Hannah, and Ryannah Nelson; Connor and Brooke Olson; step-grandchildren, Amber (Joe) Remackel and Jimmy (Denise) Phillips; siblings, Betty Livermore of Hudson, Ruth Poss of Hudson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Olson; her parents; and siblings, Wanda Heffron and Richard Detlefsen.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be at 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 31st at First Baptist Church, 309 Vine St., Hudson. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. prior to the service at church. Burial with full military honors will be in the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson to pay honor to her service in the US Army. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to First Baptist Church/American Baptist Women of Hudson.
