Myron ‘Mike’ Hesselink

Myron Kenneth Hesselink, age 96, passed away on July 11 at American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. He remained on the farm thru his 95th birthday which gave him immense satisfaction. Mike then moved to Heritage Court Assisted Living Apartments and this past March entered the care center. Myron was born on October 24, 1920 in Emerald Township; son of John G. and Anna (Ruesink) Hesselink. He attended Carr Creek School. In 1944 he united in marriage to Aletta Hop. Four children were born to this union. Mike took over the family farm later moving into Hammond but continuing his love of agriculture as a milk hauler for 21 years. In 1961, Mike began working at the St. Croix County Highway Department and returned to a farm close to Hammond. County Highway work continued for 22 years. Mike also proudly served on the Township of Hammond Board. He drove some form of truck his entire life proudly helping out Newton Trucking for many years when other jobs allowed him a more flexible schedule. His hard work ethic faced any challenge in his path.

Throughout his lifetime, Mike enjoyed fishing and hunting. In retirement he continued to be “Grandpa’s Fix-it” for any dilemmas sent his way. Bus tours were the choice of travel for the couple as they enjoyed day trips or cross county sight-seeing. HESSELINK HOBBIES was a passion for sharing their talents at flea markets, craft fairs, or garage sales. Wooden tulips were created in their farm basement among other handcrafted items for sale or gifts.

Survived by his wife Aletta of 72 years; children: Shirley (Jerry) Bastyr of Jordon, MN; Mary (Pete) Walen of Hammond; Kay (Duane) Geurkink of Baldwin; and Dick (Donna) Hesselink of Deer Park. 12 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews; also sister-in-law Joan Hesselink of Portland, OR and cousin Adeline Hesselink of Baldwin.

Funeral services for Myron will be held Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Roberts Congregational United Church of Christ, 1001 Birch Drive, Roberts. Service will be at 3 pm with public visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later time. Pallbearers will be GRANDSONS: Jim Walen, Greg Walen, Joe Hesselink, Mike Hesselink, Andy Jensen, and Max Geurkink. Honorary Pallbearers will be GRANDDAUGHTERS: Cindy Schultz, Candy Lemerand, Jennifer Hansen, Tobie Anderson, Amber Thompson, and Krystal Gaustad.

Memorials preferred to Wapo Bible Camp near Amery, WI. Myron so thoroughly enjoyed attending the church services held there with others while enjoying God’s nature. Services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
