Elizabeth Margaret “Betty” Van Ness, age 80, of Hudson, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 3, 2010. She was born the daughter of Chauncey and Clara Cronk on February 25, 1930 in Rice Lake, WI. The day after her 18th birthday, Betty was united in marriage to Robert G. Van Ness. They would be blessed with three children: Susan, Rebecca, and Robert.

Betty lived her life for her family. She loved being a mother and grandmother. Her cooking and baking skills help make family gatherings memorable; they always knew Thanksgiving would be held at the Van Ness home. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed flowers, watching birds, and all types of music – but especially Vince Gill. Betty was the type of person everyone liked instantly. She was friendly and funny. Her sense of humor was present until the very end of her life.

Betty will remain in the hearts of her husband of 62 years, Bob; daughters, Susan (Dennis) Rohl and Beckie (Jerome) Flattum; son, Bob (Kathleen) Van Ness; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (and one on the way); nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Kathleen Kester and Bernadette Bauer.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Betty at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 6th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St, Hudson. Visitation for one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment to follow in St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery.
