Einar Horne

Einar D. Horne, age 80 of Fredericksburg, TX, formerly of Hudson, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 21, 2014 at The Gathering at Boutwell’s Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN.  

Einar was born November 15, 1934 in Chippewa Falls, WI to Hans and Elizabeth (Scheig) Horne.  He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School, the class of 1952.  Einar went on to further his education at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, graduating in 1957 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  He then pursued his career with 3M Company in St. Paul, MN, working with them for 33 1/2 years.  He was united in marriage on January 4, 1958 to Rita Pitsch at Notre Dame Church in Chippewa Falls, WI.  Their marriage was blessed with four daughters:  Julie, Sharon, Carolyn and Elizabeth.  

Einar was hard working and business minded.  He was involved in numerous business ventures over the years- Casanova Beverage Company, JR Ranch, North Hudson Car Wash, Venture Fireworks and JR Ranch Equipment.  He was a genuine optimist who gave encouragement to others in many ways.  

It was important to Einar to serve his community.  He was active in Elks Organization.  As Exalted Ruler he was responsible for sponsoring baby sitting clinics, teen dances, Junior Achievement, bridge lessons, games and Dale Carnegie courses.  He also served 6 years on the St. Croix County Board.  Einar was a member of the founding group responsible for locating the YMCA in Hudson.   He was proud to be the first volunteer of the year for the YMCA.  

Einar took great pleasure in competitive duplicate bridge and became a life master in 1968.  He enjoyed being outdoors and the peacefulness of hunting and fishing.  Einar also was an avid reader.  Most important to Einar was his family.  He was an amazing example of a husband and father, always showing his love through his hugs, caring words, and gracious heart.  

Einar is survived by his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Rita; daughters, Julie Rose, Sharon Horne-Ellstrom, Carolyn (Jeffrey) Osbeck and Elizabeth (Barry) Lundeen; brother, William Horne; sisters, Millie Ottaway and Patricia Pfaff; grandchildren:  Mark Osbeck, Matthew Rose, Eric Osbeck, Michael Ellstrom, Breanna Ellstrom and Ben Lundeen; 2 great-grandchildren, Lily Rose and Gunnar Osbeck; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Feiler and Elizabeth Thompson.  

A Memorial Gathering honoring Einar’s life will be held 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, with a Memorial Service taking place at 5:00 PM.  Memorials are preferred to the charity of personal choice.
