Bill Pfluger

Ernest William Pfluger, aka Bill, age 91 of Hammond, formerly of Hudson died peacefully at his home Sunday February 12, 2012. Bill was born to Everett and Laura (Carlsen) Pfluger on July 31, 1920 in Trenton Township, Pierce County Wisconsin. They lived on family farms while Bill attended Spring Grove and Plainview Country Schools. Bill stayed on the farm and would work for neighbors such as the Huppert’s. In 1940, he worked for S.B. Foote Tannery in Red Wing before enlisting in the armed forces where he proudly served in the US Army during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, they lived in the house that Mildred bought with money she earned while working the shipyard in California while Bill was off to war.  In July 1949, Bill went to work in Hudson for Nick Wichser plumbing. They moved to Hudson where Bill worked as a plumber. Bill received his Master License in plumbing and took over the business following Nick’s death. In November 1972, they bought a cabin at Lake Magnor, which became home away from home. They would move from North Hudson to Hammond in 1985.  Bill had many great years of fishing in Canada, deer hunting over 60 years, snowmobiling with his grandkids, and fishing on Lake Magnor on his water bike. He enjoyed his travels to the Grand Canyon, Colorado River, Hoover Dam and the Petrified Forest and many points in between. Furthermore, he also enjoyed his time as a volunteer Fire Fighter in Hudson for 25 years, Life time member of the Hudson VFW, and the plumbers apprenticeship committee.

Bill will remain in the hearts of his children William (Cynthia) Pfluger of Sarona, WI, Trudy (Steve) Achterhof of Hammond, grandchildren William Jr. of Shell Lake, Scott of Bloomington, Heidi of California, great grandchildren Emily, Ashley, Jaci (Seth), great great grandchild Jordan; and sister Sylvia Wolf of River Falls. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, brother Leland, sisters Verna Jennings and Lois Waltz.
