Curtis P. “C.P.” Nickleby

Curtis P. “C.P.” Nickleby, formerly of Hudson, passed away at his home in St. Petersburg, FL on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011. He was 82.

Curt was born in Hudson on May 21, 1929 to Naomi (nee Anderson) and Curtis A. Nickleby. He attended Hudson schools and graduated from Hudson High School in 1947. He furthered his education at The Minnesota School of Business for accounting.

On July 5, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marietta Rose Bruce in New Richmond, WI. This union would be blessed with six children.

Curt was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church for many years. He also was a long time member of the Hudson Boosters and served as President. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Hudson Fire Department for 25 years and was honored as Fireman of the Year in 1982. Curt was also a member of the National Guard for 15 years and was a past Legion Commander.

Curt retired in 1987 from Andersen Windows in Bayport after 37 years of employment; belonging to their prestigious Quarter Century Club. C.P. and Marietta did a lot of traveling after his retirement and eventually decided to make St. Petersburg, FL their home in 1996. They made many friends along the way and continued to be active in their church and community.

Curt was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. He loved to cheer on the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. He made many friends and loved to tell the story of playing cards with Ray Nitschke while stationed in Fort Lewis, WA in the early 60’s.

Curtis will remain in the hearts of his beloved wife of 58 years, Marietta; his children Joan (Scott Spradley) Nickleby, Bob (Kathy) Nickleby, John (Kathe) Nickleby, Thomas (Audrey) Nickleby, Jane (Jeff) Richards and Ann Decker. Special Grandpa to Jason (Erin) Nickleby, Christopher (Andrea) Nickleby, Emily (John) Steele, Amy (Reed) Brandvik, Christina (Conway) Reese, Joshua Nickleby, Charles and Alex Richards, and Tristin Decker. Great grandfather to Madison, Johanna, Garrett and Lillian.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joanne Deiss.

A memorial service will be held Monday, June 13th at 11:00 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third Street, Hudson WI. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service. There will also be a gathering of family and friends from 4-7 on Sunday, June 12, at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorials are preferred.

C.P. was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. We will miss is smile, his special wink, and wonderful sense of humor.
