James ‘Jim’ Olson

James Morgan Olson, age 67 of River Falls, died December 19th at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.

Jim was born on November 18, 1949 in Hudson; the son of Norval ‘PeeWee’ and Jacqueline (Morgan) Olson. Being raised in Hudson, he attended St. Patrick’s Parochial School prior to graduating from the Hudson High School. He proudly enlisted in the armed forces and served in the United States Air Force.

On February 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Foster at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in River Falls. To this union, children Bradley, Jenna, and Keira were born.

Jim worked over 38 years at Andersen Windows as a plumber and utility maintenance worker. He was proud to belong to their prestigious Quarter Century Club.

Jim loved the outdoors. He took great pleasure in being with the guys hunting or ice fishing. His pheasant trips to South Dakota with his Irish Setter/Golden Retriever dog Sal were most memorable. He loved to catch northerns through the ice, but when he couldn’t, he rarely missed a good local fish fry. He was an avid sports fan who looked forward to watching the Green and Gold on Sundays, or a quieter round of golf at the Masters.

Jim is survived by children: Brad (Jessie) Olson, Jenna (Katherine Bontjes) Olson, and Keira Olson; 8 randchildren: Miranda, Vanessa, Allison, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Dennis, Alex, and Jack; sister Lynn (Mike) Simon; sisters-in-law Linda Foster, Donna Lucas, and Marianne (Scott) Shira; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Friday December 30th at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine Street, Hudson. Burial with full military honors will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St, Hudson, as well as one hour prior to the Mass at church.
