David Soucy

David L. Soucy, age 71, of Houlton Wisconsin, passed away on May 12th 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in New Richmond Wisconsin in 1952, to his wonderful parents Louis and Marjorie Soucy. Dave grew up in Hudson, with his parents and younger sister Wendy, on First Street. As a young boy, he loved stories and he loved his family. You would find him listening to the adults while they talked, cooked, and sang at family gatherings. Dave also loved building models of cars and planes as a young boy, which sustained throughout his adulthood, and turned into an extensive collection. It was through these models that his love of creating art with his hands bloomed, which would lead to his passion for woodworking and handcrafting tobacco pipes. He was outspoken and eloquent even in high school, when he was asked to speak at school assemblies about the War in Vietnam. His sister will tell you that he is her hero, and always will be. He made sure to watch out for her back on First Street, and we know he will continue to do so.

Dave graduated from Hudson High School in 1970, then attended the University of Minnesota for his undergraduate, and later graduated from Hamline School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. He worked in corporate law practices at International Multifoods, and Pillsbury Corporation. He met the love of his life, his wife Donna, at age 17, in Junior Achievement and they were married for 48 years. The remarkable love between them was one that his children and grandchildren were blessed to be able to witness. They could hold an entire conversation with a look, and in each of their eyes everyone could see the unbreakable connection that the two shared. From that love came 3 children, and they raised them in Hudson, allowing them the same type of childhood he had grown up with. Dave adored his two daughters, Angela and Jacquie, and was overjoyed when his son, Dave, was born.

Dave became a pillar within the pipe smoking community in his area, and was chosen to lead the Great Northern Pipe Club as their president. The intelligence and will that Dave possessed was a marvel to everyone who spent time with him. He was extremely knowledgeable and his imagination was something to behold, which he fondly used whenever any of his grandchildren would ask him to tell them a story. Dave was a voracious reader, and could wander a bookstore for hours with his children and grandchildren, patiently and passionately explaining the plot and characters of any classic novel they brought to him. He always kept a stack of books beside his chair in the living room, and would frequently rotate between them depending on his mood, as he had the kind of mind that could keep all the stories straight. Dave’s grandchildren kept him very busy, watching the little ones grow, attending choral performances, sporting events, and countless visits. He will live on in each and every one of them.

Dave is survived by his wife, Donna Soucy; his children, Angela Rambo (Tim), Jacqueline Scribner (Brandon), and David Soucy (Kalyssa); his sister Wendy Nelson (David); and his grandchildren; Ella, Wyatt, Elijah, Ethan, Olivia, Archer, and Dexter.

Dave was preceded in death by his father (Louis Soucy), and his mother (Marjorie Soucy), both of Hudson.

A private family memorial will take place on Friday May 19, 2023.
