Richard “Dick” Adolphson

Richard “Dick” Emil Adolphson passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dick was born to Wilbert and Alice Adophson on March 29, 1941 in Springfield, MN. He grew up in Sanborn, MN and met his wife, Kay, at just 15 years old. He was a successful athlete participating in football, baseball, and basketball, going on to play football at the University of Minnesota and Augustana College.

Dick was a lineman for nearly thirty years. He loved his work, the outdoors, camping, boating and being part of the community. He was a member and Chief of the Winnebago Fire Department and a member of the Winnebago School Board. He spent most of his life in Winnebago until moving to Montgomery, MN to finish his career in a management role.

He greatly enjoyed his retirement in the St. Croix Valley, spending many evenings and weekends at his grandchildren’s sporting events and watching sports with them from his favorite chair. He was a loving husband of 63 years, father and grandfather through his last breath.

He is survived by his wife Kay of Hudson, WI, his two daughters, Kristi (Bruce) Osborn of Mayer, MN and Kari (Lyle) Crawley of Hudson WI, his four beloved grandchildren: Logan and Lauren (Kristi and Bruce),Cooper and Keaton (Kari and Lyle), his sister Joan Adolphson of Stillwater, MN, many neices and nephews and his canine companion, Buddy.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Connie Thornburg.

His passion was keeping the lights on; we find peace in knowing that heaven now has his light. The family sends its gratitude to all who cared for him, especially Lakeview Hospital and Lakeview Hospice. A private outdoor family memorial service is planned for later this Spring. Memorials to Hudson Boosters and St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond, WI.
