Adeline Mildred Palmquist

Adeline Palmquist, 100

Adeline Mildred Palmquist of Ellsworth passed away on July 6, 2016 at River Falls Area Hospital. Adeline was born on June 4, 1916 to Flora Amelia Falkofske Freier and Christian Freier. She attended Clayfield School through the 8th grade and graduated from Ellsworth High School with the class of 1933. She was united in marriage to Floyd Allen Palmquist on June 17, 1944. They farmed and raised a family in Ellsworth township until Floyd’s death in 1980. Adeline worked at the Ames Cafe in East Ellsworth before her marriage, and later at Butler’s V-Store in East Ellsworth and in the office of the Pierce County Clerk, retiring in 1978.

After winning a flight to the Scandinavian countries in 1981, Adeline discovered she enjoyed traveling and went there again in 1982 with a group from her church with Pastor Ulvilden. In subsequent years she joined tours to Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, England and Scotland. Tours in the U.S. took her to Alaska, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Branson, Mo.

She loved her home and enjoyed hosting parties and spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren. She found pleasure in reading and in memorizing and reciting poetry. She had an extraordinary ability to remember dates and events and kept years of scrapbooks filled with news clippings of anyone she knew. She enjoyed taking photographs, entering them in the Pierce County Fair every year from 1987-2000 and winning many ribbons. Adeline was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a member of a neighborhood birthday club organized in 1945 and continuing to this day.

Adeline is survived by daughters Bonnie Palmquist of Minneapolis, Beth Palmquist of Madison, and Beulah (Richard) Gutting of Ellsworth, grandchildren August Gutting of River Falls and Rachel (Shaun) Kats of St. Paul, and sisters Florence Nelson of Ellsworth and Mable Johnsen of Bay City. Adeline was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Palmquist, her parents Flora and Christian Freier, sister Olive Thoms, brother Leland Freier, and son Ron Freier.

Services for Adeline will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Beldenville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with lunch to follow. Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior’s Church.
