Marie Fuchs

Marie Rose (Meier) Fuchs, age 97, of River Falls, WI died Sunday evening, March 29, 2020 at her home. Marie was born October 20, 1922, to Michael and Mary (Beissel) Meier in Vermillion, MN. She married the love of her life, Donald F. Fuchs on August 25, 1945.

Marie devoted herself to raising her eight children, loved spending her time gardening, canning; both vegetables as well as her famous strawberry jam (famous to her family at least), enjoyed sewing and quilting, cooking and baking, traveling and playing cards, especially 500 Rummy, Euchre, and Rummikub. There was no such thing as “letting” you win when playing with Grandma, and she sure let you hear it when the cards weren’t in her favor. She truly cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren, playing cards, games, and putting puzzles together.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Judy Filkins; parents, Michael and Mary Meier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Philomena (Pete) Becker, Viola (Don “Bing”) Sherer, Sue (Tom) Cysiewski, Theresa (Gus) Meier, Rosie (Laurence) Meier, Madeline (Alvin “Bud”) Fuchs; brothers and sister-in-law, Joe (Charlotte) Meier, and Leonard “Lenny” Meier, sisters-in-law, Lucille (Fred) Davis, Delores (Merle) Isaacson; and brothers-in-law, Francis Fuchs, and Tom Seeger.

Marie is survived by her children, Jean (Bob) Filkins of Hastings, MN, Joe (Sharon) Fuchs, Jeanette (Ron) Gutting of River Falls, WI, Janel (Larry) Ray, Jaci Fuchs, Jim (DiAnn) Fuchs, JeriLu (Scott) Brenner, and son-in-law Jerry (Vonnie Blodgett) Filkins, all of Ellsworth, WI; also 20 grandchildren, Stacy (Mark) Sarette, Carrie (Norman) Denzer, Tony (Michelle) Filkins, Paul, Tim, and Brian Filkins, Rick (Lisa) Fuchs and Don Fuchs, Tammy (Darrin) Foss, Michele (Eric) Huppert, Mike (Melissa) Gutting, Amanda (Dave) Swenson, Angie (Todd) Olson, Lisa Olson, Bill Ray, Jason and Jerad Fuchs, Jennifer (Drew) Hipple, Brady (Katie) Brenner, Nathan Brenner, 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Seeger of Hastings, MN, as well as hundreds of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Because Marie’s passing comes during the Coronavirus pandemic, a private family burial will take place at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ellsworth. However, once the uncertainty is behind us, her family will be planning a Celebration of Life for family and friends to properly honor the life of a truly great lady. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home of Ellsworth. 715-273-4421
