Shirley Hines

Shirley Marlene Hines, age 83, of Ellsworth, WI died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, August 27, 2020.  Shirley was born June 23, 1937 in Red Wing, MN to Floyd and Dorice (Mewhorter) Finstad and was raised in rural Bay City, WI.  She attended Forest Home Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1955.

Shirley married her high school sweetheart, who she met in 4-H, John ‘Jack’ Hines on December 29, 1955.  They were blessed with 9 children and over 64 years of wedded bliss.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.  Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her flower gardens, golfing, putting puzzles together, spending time at the cabin, traveling and playing cards.  Shirley worked for the Jewel Box, Ellsworth Care Center and for her husband at their business, Hines Auction Service for many years.  She was a devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church, a member of the Wisconsin and the National Auctioneers Auxiliaries and she was inducted into the WAA Hall of Fame in 2011.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Jack; her children, Joanne (Scott) Hines, Jeff (Merry) Hines, John Hines, Jillien (Brian) Bjorkman and Janeen (Nate) Sampson; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathleen Finstad; several in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; 4 infant sons; and an infant grandson.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth with Fr. Jerzy Rebacz officiating.  Interment will take place at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.  A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held 3:00 – 6:00 pm Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Club, W3930 State Road 72.
