John Andrew Domben

John Andrew Domben of Ellsworth WI, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 17, 2020. He was 89. John was born December 9, 1930 in Rolette, North Dakota to Andrew and Lilly (Hansen) Domben. John enlisted into the United States Army on November 9, 1951. He served in Korea, and was honorably discharged on October 14, 1953. John was united in marriage to Sarah Grant on December 26, 1958. Their union in marriage would be blessed with six children, two generations of grandchildren, and over 61 years of love and devotion.

John worked for NSP for 32 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working on his hobby farm, and loved collecting John Deere tractors. Also in retirement, he and Sarah both worked for Jack Hines Auction Service, where they met many great people. John was a longtime member of the Red Wing American Legion Post 54.  Through the years, he enjoyed traveling out west and attending family reunions. John was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He delighted in playing cribbage, and being surrounded by his family. John was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a good friend to many.

John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sarah; and their children, Sandra (Pete) Deusterman, Debbie (Jody Bjornson) Frandrup, David (Vanessa) Domben, Julia Domben, Anita (Rod) Parsons, and Andy Domben; their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lilly Domben; brothers, Leif, Earl, Conrad, and Arne Domben; and sister, Luella Delmaire.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 23, 2020 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 231 West Woodworth in Ellsworth WI, with Rev. Fr. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to Mass at the church. Use of masks and social distancing will be required. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Memorials honoring John are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Services entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth, WI. 715-273-4421
