Gordy Gavin

Gordon Joseph “Gordy” Gavin, age 64 of River Falls, WI, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Gordy was born October 1, 1956 in Red Wing, MN, the youngest child of William N. and Lorraine M. (Buss) Gavin. He attended school in River Falls, and graduated from River Falls High School with the Class of 1975. Having been raised on the family farm, Gordy had great appreciation, passion, and respect for farming; he was very proud to carry on the family tradition.

Gordy dedicated his life to the farm, and could always be found with his faithful companion, Duke. Gordy worked hard, played hard, and was always willing to help out a friend or neighbor. He enjoyed time spent with friends, as well as motorcycling, fishing, and hunting. Gordy loved the Green Bay Packers, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed bringing his cannon to Farm Fest. Following the fire that destroyed the St. Martin or Cherma Catholic Church, Gordy was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Big River. Though he never married or had children of his own, Gordy cherished his role as uncle and great-uncle, and had a blast giving rides to his great-nieces and great-nephews around the farm on the Gator. Gordy will be missed by family and friends alike.

Gordy is survived by his sister, Patricia (Bob) Girardi; brother-in-law, Gary Hildebrandt; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Gary) Standaert, Kim (Randy) Maier, Kelly (Dan) Horvath, John (Amanda) Huppert, Bill Hildebrandt, and Joe Hildebrandt; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jason, Keydan, Matt, Abbi, Danell, Justin, Logan, Keldan, Amber, and Clayton; his best buddy, Duke; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Susan and Carol.

A Visitation will take place (masks and social distancing encouraged) from 4:00 – 8:00pm on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church, W10137 570th Ave., rural River Falls, and one hour prior to Mass on Monday.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am on Monday, March 1, 2021 at St. Mary’s Big River Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Cherma Cemetery.
