Robert Cremer Magee

Robert “Bob” Cremer Magee, age 81, of Prescott passed away at his residence with his wife and sons by his side on December 8, 2021. He was born on September 26, 1940, to Irwin and Helen (Cremer) Magee in Red Wing, MN. Bob attended St. Thomas Academy and then Marquette University until his father passed away in 1960. On February 19, 1966, Bob married the love of his life, Gayle Kenall, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth, WI. Their union blessed them with three sons, Paul, Thad, and Chris.

Bob was a man of faith in God and love for his family and friends. He had a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary and to St. Padre Pio, having made several trips to Italy to visit him in person. After his father’s death, he took over the Bank of Ellsworth in 1960, greatly expanding its holdings. It would later become the Pierce County Bank and Trust Co. and then M&I bank. After retiring from banking, he spent many years traveling and enjoying life with his family. He was well-loved by many friends in Grand Marais, MN and in the Florida Keys, where he and Gayle owned homes. It was not uncommon for local bands to play Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee” when he arrived at their venues. He was also a daily Mass attendee and strong supporter of the churches in the communities in which he lived: St. Joseph in Prescott, WI; San Pedro in Tavernier, FL; and St. John’s in Grand Marais, MN.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gayle; children: Paul (Mirelys) Magee, Thad (Angela) Magee, and Chris (ReAnna) Magee; grandchildren: Ricky, Fred, Bill, Finley, Joaquin, Emily, Sydney, and Ruby; sister: Sue (Pete) Hiniker; sister-in-law: Mary Magee; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Magee.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prescott at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2021, with Father George Szews officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of Mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospitals, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
