Robert Torgerson

Robert Oliver Torgerson, age 79 of Woodville died Saturday evening March 12th, 2011 at the Parkview Nursing Home. Bob was born on April 29, 1931 on the family farmstead in Eau Galle township; the son of Oliver and Frances (Wahl) Torgerson. He attended the Hoover Country School just a short distance from home. He graduated from the Woodville High School in 1949. He learned the trade of farming from his father which he continued during his life. In 1953, he enlisted in the armed forces and proudly served in the United States Army until 1955.

Over the years, he served as Eau Galle town Chairman and on the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors. On May 15, 1970, he was united in marriage to Gayla Jean Ulven in West St. Paul. To this union a son Casey was born. She would precede him in death in 1994. Bob enjoyed tinkering with woodworking making trinkets. Bob was a very intelligent man belonging to the organization MENSA; literally meaning high IQ. He enjoyed writing poetry and articles for the Woodville Leader and served on the library board. He kept up on national news and was always prepared for a political discussion. His greatest passion would be his beloved Yankees. If you ever walked in Bob’s room, his radio was always playing a Yankee game.

Bob is survived by his son Casey, brother Richard (Delores “Toots”) Torgerson, mother-in-law Clarice Ulven, brothers-in-law Jack Ulven, Fred Dierksmeier, and sister-in-law Carole DeLong. He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Frances (Wahl) Torgerson, wife Gayla, sister Betty Dierksmeier, and father-in-law John Ulven.
