Fred W. Zimmerman

Fred W. Zimmerman age 80 of Hudson died peacefully Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson. Fred was born on August 30, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois; the son of Willy and Martha (Matzat) Zimmerman. He was raised in North Judson, Indiana where he graduated from high school. Following this, Fred enlisted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On March 25, 1968, he was married to Donna Marie Johnson in South Dakota.  Fred worked for 3M Manufacturing in their maintenance department for 15 years prior to his retirement. Fred was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He had a great appreciation for the outdoors; camping, feeding the birds, and country drives. It was not unusual for Fred to simply jump in the car and drive throughout the countryside just to see nature at its best.   Most recently his greatest pleasure, came from going to watch the grandchildren at school and sporting events.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna; children, Jeanine (Steve) Sivek of North Hudson, Will (Jodie) Zimmerman of Woodbury, Jonelle (Chad) Freiberg of Hudson, Gail (Wendell) Glawson of Florida, Michael (Donna) Maggiacomo of Florida; ten grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Dee) Zimmerman of No. Carolina, and Thomas (Bonnie) Zimmerman of Indiana.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 6:00 PM Tuesday, September 24th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Organist Lisa Zwiefelhofer will accompany the singing of Dominic Mitchell. Readers will be Marlys Hasz, Gerald Johnson, and Wayne Johnson. Visitation will take place 4:00 – 6:00 PM PRIOR to the Mass at church Tuesday afternoon. Private family burial will take place Wednesday at the parish cemetery. Memorials are preferred. Pallbearers assisting with the services will be:  Donnie Zimmerman, Thomas Zimmerman Jr., Chad Freiberg, Steven Sivek, Stephanie Sivek and Gail Zimmerman Glawson.  Honorary Pallbearers will be:  Andrew, Anna and Matthew Zimmerman and Justin Sivek.  Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
