June Lavine

June Beverly Mathison/Warns Lavine, age 94, passed away September 7, 2014 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, Wisconsin, in the arms of daughters Cheryl and Beverlee.

June was born to Ethel and Lyman Mathison on June 29, 1920 in Duluth, Minnesota. Her parents divorced and Ethel married John L. Warns who became June’s lifelong and devoted father. June was raised in the Owen Withee area and graduated from Owen High School in 1938. She took her teacher’s training at Medford County Normal School and began teaching in 1940. June taught eight grades in several area country schools and also taught at Owen Elementary School. 

June married her first sweetheart, Melvin C. F. Lavine, on February 26, 1944 in Abbotsford, while he was on leave from the Marine Corps. They were married for 65 years. They raised their three daughters: Beverlee, Cheryl and Kathleen at 1218 Dover St. in Chippewa Falls. June was a member of St. Charles Borromeo parish where she taught 3rd grade for 8 years at St. Charles Elementary. Melvin was a conductor/brakeman on the Soo Line railroad. When Melvin and June retired, they moved to Eau Claire.
