Nancy Thoen

Nancy Louise Thoen, “St. Nancelia” to some of her family and friends, age 63 of Roberts, died Monday, October 17, 2016 at Regions Hospital following a hard fought battle with lymphoma. Nancy was born on February 28, 1953 in Baldwin; the daughter of Roy and Sadie (Solstad) Lindquist. She was raised in rural Baldwin attending St. Croix Central Schools. She would further her education by receiving her Licensed Practical Nurse degree in Hastings, Minnesota. She would embark on a long and rewarding career in the medical field at Baldwin Hospital, Soderberg Eye Care, and Christenson Eye Care.

On February 19, 1972, she would be united in marriage to Randy Thoen at Woodside Lutheran Church, rural Baldwin. For 44 years, they supported each other through the good times and tough times. Nancy was a kind spirit who simply loved to talk to others. A quick run to the grocery store would take forever as she always had to stop to visit with someone she knew. She genuinely cared for the well being of others and what was new in their life. She also enjoyed taking care of her cats, her flowers, and creating memories scrapbooking. She took great pleasure from time spent with her girlfriends, her ‘hunting widows’ vacations and camping. But mostly, she was most comforted spending time with family. She loved cooking for her crew as no-one left hungry; especially on the holidays. She was content with watching The View or a heart tugging movie on the Hallmark channel; much to Randy’s chagrin. Her favorite was watching her grandchildren at a ball game or dance recital as they were the apple of her eye.

Nancy will forever remain the hearts of her husband Randy; children Jason (Lynn) Thoen of Hammond, Juli (Jason) Anderson of Hudson, Josh Thoen of Roberts; grandchildren Elisabeth & Brenna Thoen and Owen & Blake Anderson; siblings Roger (June) Lindquist of Hammond, LeRoy (Carol) Lindquist of Baldwin, Curt (Kay) Lindquist of Hudson, brothers/sisters-in-law Jim McNerney of Utah, Marilyn (Jeff) Hilton of New Mexico, Kevin (Sally) Thoen of Hammond, and many special nieces and nephews who adored her. She joins her parents Roy and Sadie (Solstad) Lindquist, sister Sylvia McNerney; niece Christine John; nephews Scott and Rob Lindquist, great nephew Bryon John, and sister-in-law Rose Thoen in Heaven.

Memorial service reflecting on Nancy’s life will be 6:00pm Sunday, October 23rd at Historic Woodside Place 2053 County Road N, in rural Baldwin. Visitation precedes the service from 3:00pm till the time of service at 6:00pm at Woodside. Memorials maybe directed to the family which will be used to further her passions in life. Years ago, Nancy taught classes at the Baldwin Area Medical Center “I Can Cope”. She would want you to cope with her death, but not to forget her spirit, nor her family as they will need your support.
