Florence Catherine Simon, age 96 of Hudson, WI, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Florence was born March 1, 1921 in Troy Township to Robert and Margaret (Cosgriff) Brunner. She was a graduate of Hudson High School, Class of 1939. Florence was united in marriage to Leon F. Simon on June 30, 1943. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Mary Joan, Kay, Joseph, Michael, and Teresa.
Florence was devoted in her faith, and was a lifetime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish. Florence worked for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church & School in Hudson as an accountant for a period of time. One of her passions was reading. For 35 years Florence volunteered as the librarian at St. Patrick’s School Library. At the age of 80, she had the opportunity to plan, automate & move into a new school library space bringing the collection up to date. She was a charter member of the St. Croix County Genealogical Society and an avid researcher of her family history with multiple trips to Ireland & England. Florence and Leon were fortunate to share many hunting and fishing trips together. She was particularly fond of Teton National Park and especially Mt Moran and Jenny Lake for its awe and wonder. Florence was a Civil War enthusiast and traveled to many of the historic battle sites. She was dedicated to her grandchildren, and was very proud of all their educational achievements.
Florence will remain in the hearts of her children, Mary Joan (Michael) Sutton of River Falls, Kay (Jerry) Stinebrink of Lake Geneva WI, Joseph (Christy) Simon of Hudson, Michael (Lynn) Simon of River Falls, and Teresa (Philip) Sadrakula of Hudson; grandchildren: Larry (Christine) Charbonneau, Christopher (Merrick) Stinebrink, Kelley Simon, Steven Charbonneau, Aaron (Beth) Stinebrink, Rachael (Zach) Simon-Miller, Robert (Kelsey) Simon, Molly (Adam) Hesselroth, Kathleen (Joe) Lak, Jennifer Simon, Sarah (Sean) Grunewaldt, and Nathan Sadrakula; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Glesnes of Boston, MA.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; 3 sisters; and her parents, Robert and Margaret Brunner.
A Visitation will take place 5:00 – 8:00 PM, with a 7:30 prayer service, Wednesday, December 13 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, and one hour prior to Mass at church on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Thursday, December 14 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson, with Fr. John Gerritts officiating. Interment will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. Florence’s grandchildren will have the honor as pallbearers. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society-Hudson Relay for Life, the St. Croix County Alzheimer’s Association, and St. Patricks’ School Library.
