Torgerson, Douglas

Douglas W. Torgerson, 93, of Hudson, WI, passed away early on December 5, 2019 at Christian Community Home. Doug was born on February 15, 1926, in Deer Park, WI, to parents Harry and Amanda Torgerson. He graduated from New Richmond High School in 1943 and went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before graduating, he joined the US Navy V-12 program, earning a Bachelor of Naval Science degree from Northwestern University. He also earned his commission as an ensign and then served in the Pacific during 1946-47. After his naval service, he returned to the University of Wisconsin, completing his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1949 and earning his CPA in 1954.

After graduation Doug worked for Bendix Aviation in South Bend, IN as an internal auditor. In 1951 he began a 35-year career in finance at 3M in St Paul, MN. He relocated briefly to Waukesha WI, followed by 22 years in Bedford Park, IL, before returning to St Paul as financial manager for 3M’s Asia Pacific area. He retired in 1986….and then spent the next decade selling real estate with Century 21.

He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Beverley Askey, on August 22, 1947.  They were married for 70 years and blessed with three children and four granddaughters. Doug was an avid golfer, playing twice a week for much of his life. He also enjoyed his annual fishing trip, boating on the St. Croix River, and cross country skiing. He generously volunteered  many hours of his time to his church homes in LaGrange, IL and Hudson, WI, Boy Scouts, Lion’s Club, Christian Community Home, and other organizations. He was an avid reader and life-long Badger/Packer/Cub fan. Doug and Bev loved jitterbugging to Big Band music, threw numerous memorable parties, and expanded their world with frequent US and international travel adventures.

Doug will remain in the hearts of his children Kathy (Evan) Klingsberg of Newtown Square, PA, Eric (Layne) Torgerson of Kauai, HI, and Robin Torgerson of Pine River, MN, along with granddaughters Erin, Ali, Kendall, and Juliette, and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife Bev,  parents, brother Robert (Pearl), and sister Genevieve (Melvin) Heibel.

Visitation will be Monday  January 6, 2020, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the Hudson United Methodist Church just prior to the funeral service, which will begin at 11 a.m. at church.

Doug has asked that memorials to his decades-long church home, the Hudson United Methodist Church, be considered.
