Edmund “Ed” Velaski

Edmund Velaski, age 92 of Baldwin WI, died on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Baldwin Care Center. Ed was born April 23, 1922 in Orleans MN. Ed attended St. James Catholic High School in Grand Forks ND, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps to serve his country during WWII. He would be united in marriage to Dorothy Thompson on April 7, 1942 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston MN. Their union in marriage would be blessed with five children. Dorothy would precede him in death on February 1, 2000.

Ed worked for many years as a meat cutter for IGA Stores of Minneapolis and King Soopers of Denver CO. He worked hard to provide for his family. Ed enjoyed woodworking projects, and being a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. Ed was also active through his church, serving as a eucharistic minister, and in later years, was active with the Knights of Columbus. Ed was one of those select few type of folks who “over volunteered” themselves. Always busy and helping others, you could find him volunteering at the St. Croix County Department of Aging, the Baldwin Public Library, and the Baldwin Senior Center. He was a familiar face, and was well respected by those who had the privilege to know him.

Ed is survived by his sons, Gene (Lois) Velaski of Bloomington MN, Phil (Diane) Velaski of Baldwin WI, and Dan (Dianne) Velaski of Rosemount MN; eight grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Antonia and Victoria; his parents; four siblings; and twelve half-siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial for Ed Velaski will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1265 Ridgeway Street in Hammond WI, with Fr. Jerry Harris officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. On Friday, January 23, 2015 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, a 3:00pm Rosary Service will be held, with visitation following until 6:00pm. Memorials in honor of Ed may be directed to the Baldwin Food Pantry, or the Baldwin Senior Center. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI. 715-684-3434
