Calvin Kooiman

Calvin Gene Kooiman, age 63 of Chaska, MN, formerly of Baldwin died Friday January 20, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Healthcare Center in Waconia following an illness with cancer. ‘Cal’ was born on May 26, 1948 in Edgerton, Minnesota; the son of Engbert and Ella (Boldt) Kooiman. He attended elementary school at the Baldwin Christian School prior to graduating from the St. Croix Central High School. Cal was united in marriage to Elaine Rosendal at the Christian Reformed Church in Baldwin. This union would be blessed with six children. He enjoyed his time farming as well as driving truck for Wally Shefland and Don Hastings. Cal loved the outdoors and had great admiration for it. He enjoyed the open roads; whether riding his motorcycle or vacationing with the family to the Black Hills or Washington State. He also enjoyed going to rodeos and tractor pulls. It gave him great meaning to be a member of the Christian Reformed Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Cal is survived by his children Scott (Holly) Kooiman of Beaver Dam, WI, Keith (Monica) Kooiman of Chaska, MN, Julie Kooiman of Star Prairie, WI, Daniel (Sara Wicklund) Kooiman of Baldwin, Joseph Kooiman of Crystal, MN, Susan Kooiman of Bloomington, IL, grandchildren Jake and Abby, siblings Judy (John) Brinkman of Winnipeg, Ervin (Alice) Kooiman of Florida, Roger (Lori) Kooiman of Hammond, Kenneth Kooiman of Maplewood, MN, mother-in-law Ruth Rosendal of Baldwin, sisters-in-law Cheryl Rosendal of Baldwin, Lynette Rosendal of Baldwin, and Ruthann (Jim) Fick of Knapp. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine, brother John Kooiman, and father-in-law William Rosendal. 

Funeral service for Cal will be 11AM Tuesday January 24 at the Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery. Active casketbearers will be Scott Kooiman, Keith Kooiman, Dan Kooiman, Joe Kooiman, matt Kooiman, and Bart Kooiman with Jake Kooiman serving as an honorary casketbearer.
