Richard C. Miller

Richard “Dick” Charles Miller, age 85 of Prescott, Wisconsin passed away at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 26, 2022.  Dick was born on April 30, 1937, to Charles and Lucille (Brenner) Miller. Dick had an older brother, Donald, who was 7 years older.  Both boys lost their mom when Dick was just two years old. His Dad raised the two boys with the help of Dick’s grandparents in Clayfield, WI. Eventually his aunt, Leona, helped raise the boys when Dick was 10.  He lived in Ellsworth, WI for many years and was a graduate of Ellsworth High School with the class 1955. He joined the Air Force and served for 3 1/2 years as an airplane mechanic.

After Dick retired from the military, he met Bonnie Jean Simon and they married on July 14, 1962.  Dick and Bonnie lived in Prescott and had four children together.  Together, they built their dream home just outside of town with a beautiful view of the Mississippi River that Dick still enjoyed living in for 58 years. They were so proud of having built their house.

Dick worked at Norlake Refrigeration for eight (8) years. He worked at 3M for 29 1/2 years as a Precision Sheet Metalist and retired from there at the age of 60.  During his time at 3M, Dick made several prototypes that were patented. He was recognized as “the guy to go to get things done”.

Dick was very talented in woodworking. He has made so many beautiful pieces for his family and friends, including grandfather clocks, medicine cabinets, jewelry boxes, benches, coat racks, small clocks, and candle sticks. He also had an amazing ability to fix anything.  Dick was the person to call when anyone needed help with a project or a problem…whether it was mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry.

Dick’s family enjoyed camping all across the country with their pop-up camper. After spending more time up north visiting friends on the lake, they decided to try cabin life. In 1984, together they converted a garage to a wonderful cabin on Loon Lake in Danbury, WI. For 38 years his family has enjoyed spending time up at the cabin “Miller’s Highlife”. His family has so many fond memories camping and going to the cabin, including Timber Trails and their annual 4th of July celebrations. The cabin has welcomed so many family and friends over the years.

Although Dick did not like to be in the spotlight, his legacy shined bright as a man who was a leader by his actions.  He showed us compassion, respect, hard work, strong faith, patience, and love.

Dick is survived by his four children: Steve (Lynn), Scott (Kathy), Sheri Reis, and Sam (Mignon); 13 grandchildren: Alexis, Casey, Taylor (Mackenzie) , Tyler, Jacob, McKenzie, Bekah, Katie, Hannah, Leah, Mariah, Channing, and Amanda; One great grandchild, Bode Miller. He is further survived by his son in-law Bill Reis and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie (Bon Bon), parents Charles and Lucille; his brother Donny; his aunt Leona who helped raise him, and daughter in-law Terri Miller (Moseley).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Friday, November 4, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church: 269 Dakota St. S, Prescott, Wisconsin 54021. A Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the start of Mass.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Prescott.
