Cheri J. Shumaker

Cheri J Shumaker, age 79, formerly of New Richmond, Wisconsin, passed away on December 29, 2022, at Hudson Hospital in Hudson, Wisconsin.

 

Cheri was born on February 17, 1943, to Clyde and Winona (Jackie) Lockey, in Rawlings, Wyoming.  She grew up in the Okoboji lakes area of Iowa, graduating from Arnolds Park High School in 1961 where she was valedictorian.  In Arnolds Park, she also met the love of her life, Jim Shumaker.  Cheri and Jim were married August 22, 1964 and had three sons.

 

Cheri attended Methodist School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1964.  She worked at a doctor’s office in Spencer, Iowa, and at Holy Family Hospital (now Westfields) in New Richmond, Wisconsin.  During her nursing career, she worked in clinic, emergency room and operating room roles, contributing to the development of other medical professionals and making many friends.

 

She loved to travel throughout the United States and Canada with Jim on their Gold Wing motorcycle, taking in beautiful scenery and sampling tasty roadside food.  Cheri cherished time spent with her family, gardening, walking, and cooking.

 

Cheri will be dearly missed by her children Steven (Monika) Shumaker and David (Michelle) Shumaker, her sister-in-law Sally Shumaker, her daughter-in-law Andrea (Mike) Shumaker, her grandchildren Heather (Jacob) Moulton, Rachel (Gunnar Clancy) Shumaker, Eric Shumaker, Sam Shumaker, Carolyn Shumaker and Max Shumaker, her great granddaughter, Kennedy Clancy, and many other family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim Shumaker, her sister Kaye (Lockey) Erickson, and her son Mike Shumaker

 

A small private celebration of life will be held for Cheri in the near future.
