Joann Verna Doornink, age 86, of Baldwin, WI, passed away on June 13^th, 2023, surrounded by family, at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Joann was born on December 17, 1936 to John and Annie (Hendriks) Lokhorst. She graduated from Baldwin-Woodville High School. She married Lloyd William Doornink and together they were blessed with four children. They were looking forward to celebrating 65 years of marriage on June 27.

Joann began her career at Washsau Insurance Company in Minneapolis in 1955, costing out auto policies. She later was employed at Baldwin Agricultural in 1958 and then at the Baldwin Colonial Hotel. In the 1970’s, she began working for McCormick Furniture Store in River Falls, making custom draperies. In 1977, she worked at Baldwin Veterinarian Clinic, helping in the office and assisting with the animals, and then later retired from Joan Larson Acupuncture in 2010.

Joann’s greatest love and joy was her family. Watching sports, especially the grandkids’ sporting activities, was one of Joann’s passions. Joann was talented in knitting and sewing and she could always be found in the kitchen, where she loved to bake for family and friends.  She also loved to travel to annual family reunions in the Wisconsin Dells and to Arizona each winter, where she enjoyed many days of sunshine for 15 years.  Joann was active for many years in their church with the Dorcas Ladies Society and helping to start and lead Calvinettes.

She will remain in the hearts of her beloved husband, Lloyd; children: Jeff (Patti) Doornink, Carol (Dale) Rasmusson, Cherie (Doug) Egedy, David (Jane) Doornink; grandchildren: Matt, Greg and Sarah Doornink, Tim Boland, Kyle (Ann) and Scott (Nicolle) Rasmusson, Kevin, Eric (Ashley) and Lindsie Egedy, Zach and Nicole Doornink; great-grandchildren: Lynn, Robert and Charlotte Rasmusson; brother Bob Lokhorst; and sister, Sharilyn Wissink.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Lokhorst; sister, Ruth Klanderman; and brothers-in-law, Craig Wissink and Ken Klanderman.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Baldwin Christian Reformed Church, 897 US Hwy 63, Baldwin. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Lunch will be served after the service. Her 8 grandsons have the honor of serving as casketbearers: Kyle Rasmusson, Scott Rasmusson, Matt Doornink, Greg Doornink, Tim Boland, Kevin Egedy, Eric Egedy, and Zach Doornink. Memorials are preferred to the Baldwin Christian School.
