James Michael Shearer

James M. Shearer, age 45, of Hammond, WI died on October 23, 2023 in a tragic traffic accident. James was born on May 8, 1978 to parents Melbourne and Carol (Gaulke) Shearer. He grew up near Cumberland, WI, and graduated from Barron High School with the class of 1997, where he was a gifted athlete in football, wrestling, and track. He attended Mt. Scenario College on a football scholarship, where he initially met his wife, Shirley Loos. He moved to Baldwin in 2001 where he worked at a few different jobs before he found his true calling in the Dairy Industry. First as a herdsman, then route specialist, and ultimately as sales manager at Leedstone in Menomonie.

In 2004 James married Rochelle Dumond. He became a loving step-dad to Taylor, and they welcomed two daughters, Hayden and Brystol, who they later successfully co-parented.  In time, James and Shirley found one another again, and they were married in 2017. They formed an extraordinary team, and together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, family and friends.  James’s main focus was always on his girls. He was a proud (and loud) cheer dad, and very rarely missed any of their activities. He loved to support them at every event from 4-H to concerts to golf to volleyball, and everything in between. He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting and fishing as often as his busy schedule would allow. James loved to connect with and help others, which led him to serving on the Pleasant Valley Township Board and as a firefighter with United Fire and Rescue in Hammond. James’ love of sports stayed with him his whole life, with many years of league bowling and softball, and being a loyal (and loud) Chicago Bears fan. He will be remembered by many for his kind heart and fun-loving spirit.

He will remain in the hearts of his wife Shirley; daughters Taylor Gedatus, Hayden Shearer, and Brystol Shearer; mother Carol Shearer; brother Monty (Mary) Shearer; sister Michelle (Bruce) Klefstad; his daughters’ mother Rochelle Tuschl and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Melbourne.
