Gregory Riley, age 71, passed away peacefully November 9, 2023, at his home in Hudson, WI.

Greg was born September 25, 1952, to Edward (Ted) and Muriel (Salkiewicz ) Riley. He graduated from St. Croix Central. Greg married the love of his life Karen Hillstead, and together they raised their family in Hammond, Wisconsin.

Being a husband, father and entrepreneur were three of his favorite roles. Greg was a dedicated husband and tremendous care giver to Karen as their relationship spanned 50 years. He also took great enjoyment in being a father and gave his children the opportunity to forge their own paths.

As an entrepreneur he owned Blacktop Services for 35 years and specialized golf course cart paths. He had the good fortune of working many summers with Thor and Amanda. The next chapter for Greg and Karen moved them to Door County and eventually Sun Prairie, Wisconsin where he opened Riley Real Estate. They enjoyed the area and had wonderful friends and neighbors.

Greg had a great passion for the outdoors that included golfing, pheasant hunting, fishing and cross-country skiing.

After Karen passed, Greg moved back to the Hudson area to be closer to his children.

This past summer Greg’s role as “Grandpa Greg” was not only for his grandchildren, but also to the great nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids too.

He was a kind, honest and loyal man that instilled these qualities in his children.

Survivors include his children, Heidi Urness (Tony) Thor Riley (JoAnne) and Amanda Riley; grandchildren, Melissa Urness, Shania Urness, Taylynn Riley, and Zane Riley; great-granddaughter, Zoey Urness; siblings Don (Debbie) Riley and Jean (Karl) Spott and many, nephews, nieces and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Karen, his parents Ted & Muriel, sister Elaine.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday November 24 from 1-4 pm at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI. Memorials are preferred to a charity of the donors choosing in memory of Greg. If you are unable to attend the gathering your card can be mailed to the funeral home and they will be forwarded on to the family.
