Stanley Cory

Stanley Hugh Cory died peacefully on November 26, 2023, at Hudson Hospital in Hudson, Wisconsin, surrounded by people who love him. Stan was preceded in death by his first wife Max Cory (d. 2002), his parents, his sisters Mary Rivera and Bertie Joers, and his brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Johnson. Stan is survived by his current wife and partner of nineteen years Linda Cory; his three daughters Alison (Jeffrey) Simison, Alanna (Michael) McNamara, and Alyssa (Joseph) Kruschke; his six grandchildren Carter and Clara Simison, Lila and Evan McNamara, and Harrison and Jameson Kruschke; his sisters Sally (Sultan) Farooqi and Kathleen “Kitty” Johnson; his nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law Marilyn Bauer; and his brothers-in-law David (LeeAnn) Bauer, Gene (Kathy) Cloutier, Julio Rivera, and Ron Joers. He will also be missed by other family members and many loyal, life-long friends who are lucky enough to have known him.

Stan was born on January 22, 1941, in Powers, Michigan, to Charles and Rose (Nowack) Cory. He spent the early years of his childhood there before moving to Fairbanks, Alaska, and then Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1959. Stan went to trade school and studied engineering. He then worked at Minnesota Bearing managing the conveyor operation until 1999 when he founded his own business, Conveyor Concepts, with Mike Erickson. He was the president until retiring in 2010.

Stan was passionate about sailing on his beloved Lake Superior, where he docked his sailboat for fifty-five years. He was an original member of the Madeline Island Yacht Club, serving on the Board of Directors for twenty-nine years and as Commodore for thirteen years. Stan also sailed in two Caribbean 1500s.

When he wasn’t sailing, Stan enjoyed being in his workshop. He was a self-taught woodworker who created beautiful tables and benches. Stan was a man of few words. He was humble and hard-working, a faithful friend who loved his friends and family. They will miss his famous laugh and signature skip.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church East, 614 Badlands Rd., Hudson, Wisconsin. The service will start at 11 A.M. with a visitation an hour prior. A catered meal will follow the service at Big Guys BBQ Roadhouse also in Hudson, Wisconsin. Blessed be the memory of Stanley Cory.
