Scott L. Nelson

Scott Lowry Nelson, age 72, of North Hudson, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Kinnic Health and Rehab, ending his battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Scott was born on October 10, 1951 in Minneapolis, MN to Lowry and Ellen (Schaal) Nelson. Scott grew up in Chippewa Falls, WI and graduated from Chi High in 1969. Scott worked at Pizza Hut in Chippewa Falls and then relocated to open their Prairie du Chien location. While living in PDC, Scott met Chari Nelsen, who he married in 1978. Later that year, Scott and Chari moved to Wisconsin Dells where he managed the Pizza Hut. They welcomed their first son, Ryan, while living in Wisconsin Dells. In 1980 they were transferred to manage Pizza Hut in Hudson, WI so they moved to North Hudson where they made their home for the next 43 years. They welcomed two more sons, Cory in 1982 and Kirk in 1985. In 1990, Scott and Chari bought Kozy Korner in New Richmond, WI and eventually moved it to North Hudson. Scott was an avid fan of all Wisconsin athletics. His love of the University of Wisconsin Marching Band led him to building a friendship with longtime director Mike Lecrone and having the Band come to play at Kozy Korner year after year. Scott was very witty and creative.  He had hidden talents like drawing cartoons, as well as more widely known talents like writing and singing the Kozy Korner jingle for their radio commercials. Scott was generous to his community over the years, donating pizzas and money to numerous community organizations including North Hudson Elementary School, Hudson Backpack Program, and North Hudson’s Pepper Festival. Scott retired in 2021 when the family decided to sell Kozy Korner. Scott celebrated his retirement by taking a road trip of a lifetime to tour Gettysburg with his sons. As the impact of Scott’s Parkinson’s Disease progressed, he received excellent care at Kinnic Health and Rehab in River Falls, WI. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the exceptional staff there. Scott’s sharp mind and humor were with him until the end and will be dearly missed by all.

Scott is survived by his wife Chari; sons Ryan, Cory, and Kirk (Shelly); brothers Rick Nelson, Tim (Yvonne) Hedrington, and Mark (Paulette) Hedrington; and stepsiblings Ron (Vicki) Hedrington, Laura (Dan) McKinney, Dan (Camille) Hedrington, Connie Kamar, and Bill (Holly) Hedrington; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents Lowry and Ellen, stepfather Donald (“Tiny”) Hedrington, stepfather Eugene Hedrington, sister Jaqueline, and brother Thomas.

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at 1:00pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson, WI. It will be livestreamed on the church facebook page.  Visitation will follow from 2-5pm. Scott was not one for a suit and tie, and he wouldn’t want his friends to have to be either. Therefore, guests are invited to wear their favorite Badger, Packer, Brewer, or Kozy Korner gear.

Love ya, and Always, On Wisconsin!
