Donald Eggen

Donald LeRoy Eggen was born June 15, 1936 in the township of Baldwin, the only child of Lloyd V. Eggen and Florence Scholl Eggen.

Don was united in marriage to Karen Jacobson on August 1, 1959. To this union, two sons were born, Jon William and Steven Craig.

Don was a graduate of Baldwin High School and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Members of Gethsemane, Baldwin; Our Saviors Lutheran, Amery and First Lutheran, New Richmond.

He served in the Army National Guard at River Falls, WI from May 1957 to April 1963. He served at Fort Lewis after being called up for the Berlin Crisis.

Don grew up working along side his mother and father in the meat and later the grocery business started by them in 1947. He continued as owner – manager of Eggen’s Super Market until his retirement in 1998.

Don lived in and around Baldwin most of his life. Spending some years at Wapogasset / Bear Trap Lakes in Amery and later downsizing to a townhouse in New Richmond. Over the last couple of years, he resided in the Birchwood Apartments in Baldwin.

He served his community for several years as a village board member.

He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, in 2021; his mother, Florence, in 1989 and father, Lloyd in 2013.

Don is survived by sons Jon (Allene), Steven (Melissa) and grandchildren, Daniel (Hilary) Eggen, Bradley Eggen, Kelli (Jake) Pickerign, Shawn (Kaycee) Eggen, Alexandra (Dan) Orr, Carley (Logan) LaFavor, Mariah Eggen along with 14 great-grandchildren.

Don enjoyed riding his motorcycle for several years, while both he and Karen enjoyed their motorcycle trips together. He and Karen had many trips with friends in their motorhomes. Beautiful trips were taken in the US as well as trips to Europe and the Caribbean.

A memorial service for Don will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, WI. Visitation will be from 1-3pm and service a 3pm.
