Peder Pederson

Peder Junior Pederson, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on July 2, 2024. Peder was born on July 12, 1929, to parents Peder and Margaret (Hetlan) Pederson. Peder was the second youngest of 9 kids and grew up on the family farm. After graduating from Shell Lake High School class of 1947, he took Agricultural courses at the University of Wisconsin Madison. After studying at Madison he purchased an 80 acre dairy farm while also working at a boat factory in Shell Lake. While “picking potatoes” he met his future wife (years later she told her kids how fast and hard working he was and that she was impressed!) He married Virginia Ullom in 1955 and together they worked the farm and raised their three children. Eventually, he discovered that working with fiberglass while building boats was not a career for him. With no carpentry experience (and a St Paul Carpenters Union Card in hand) he applied for and got a job with a Union Construction Company building apartments and houses. In the early 70’s he started his own company building over 100 homes in Shell Lake and surrounding communities. In the late 80’s he moved to Aurora, IL and finished the rest of his career in the Chicago Carpenters Union.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Peder found immense joy in traveling with his family. From the serene landscapes of Montana to the sunny shores of Florida and the picturesque landscapes of Norway, where he has many relatives. Peder cherished every moment spent exploring new places and creating lasting memories with his loved ones. His wife (Virginia) was a great cook! They hosted many pizza parties for their kids and all the grandkids. Lots of chicken dinners with many desserts including hard to beat lemon meringue pie. And, not to be forgotten, fresh warm cinnamon rolls in the morning!

Peder is survived by his son Curtis (Martha) Pederson, daughter Cheri (Steve) Minot, daughter Linda (James) King; grandchildren Phil (Bethany), Bethany (Christian), Derek (Katy), Daniel, Tony (Kristy), Eric, Tonya, Michelle, and Zak; great grandchildren Nora, Landon, Adrian, Emanuel, Oliver, Emma, Madaline, and Nathan.

He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia; parents; and 8 siblings.

A memorial service celebrating Peder’s life will take place at: First United Pentecostal Church, 337 Greenwood Avenue, Spooner, WI 54801 September 1, 2024 @ 12:00 noon with lunch to follow in the church basement.
