Mary Doar Zipperer

Mary Patricia Doar Zipperer, age 93, of New Richmond, traded in her earthly address for a heavenly one on August 12, 2024. Born on March 23, 1931, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Fredrick and Margaret (Bell) Doar, Mary was a vibrant soul right from the start. She honed her mischievous spirit at Blessed Sacrament Parochial School in Dungeon County, near Madison, Wisconsin. After graduating from Edgewood High School, she sharpened her skills further at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC).

Mary’s heart was stolen by a charming young gentleman, who soon became her best friend and soulmate. On June 28, 1951, she tied the knot with James Zipperer at Blessed Sacrament in Madison. Their adventure took them to New Richmond, where they became beloved fixtures in the community, and raised their three children.

Mary was the quintessential multitasker. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, she had a soft spot for emergency services. She trained to become a licensed EMT and joined the New Richmond Area Ambulance Service where she served for just under twenty years. Her talents didn’t stop there; she also served as a police matron for the St. Croix County Sheriff Department and the New Richmond Police Department. Civic Duty also called in government, and Mary answered, serving several years on the New Richmond City Council.

On a rainy winter day, you could find Mary lost in a good novel or trying her hand at a new recipe, despite her playful grumblings about cooking. Her bridge games with friends were legendary, even if the real prize was the laughter shared with great friends.

Mary reunites with her husband James; her brothers Fred (Jane Ann) Doar, and James Doar; her sisters Margaret Ann ‘Peggy’ (Burton) Armstrong, and Ina Jean Doar in the great beyond. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with her children; Jim (Diane) Zipperer of Idaho, John (Julie) Zipperer of Somerset, and MaryKay (Andy) Rice of New Richmond; seven grandchildren Kristen and Lara (of Jim and Diane); Jami, Micheal, Amber, and Jessie (of John and Julie); Robert (of Andy and MaryKay); and great-grandson Oscar (of Robert and Britta); sister-in-law Raelene Doar of North Carolina

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Zipperer will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., visitation will start at 12:30, prior to the Mass at Immaculate Conception. Mary will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery. Mary’s family invites you to come celebrate her life, share a laugh, and remember the woman who taught us all the importance of service, family, and a good chuckle. Funeral services have been entrusted to O’Connell Family Funeral Homes.
