Her dedication to the blind was near and dear to her heart and she cherished the Hadley School for the blind.

Doris founded the Midway Area Chapter of the Red Hat Society known as the “Ruby Rollers” on May 1, 2003. In June of 2006, she became certified as a “Competent Toastmaster” with the Eclectics Toastmasters. She also was active in the Dorcas Society at Knox Presbyterian Church. On September 23, 1993, their Lutheran church closed and they attended neighborhood churches after that.

Dale and Doris enjoyed vacationing together and traveled to many destinations here and abroad. After Dale’s passing in 2002, Doris remained in the St. Paul area until medical issues brought her to the Baldwin Care Center in September 2011.
