John Vernon Jensen, age 67 of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly November 30, 2013 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. John was born May 2, 1946 in Horton, Kansas; the son of Vernon Alexander and Pauline Gertrude (Gustafson) Jensen. He graduated from Kenyon High School, the class of 1964. After High School, John furthered his education in Business Administration at St. Olaf, later obtaining his Bachelors of Science degree at the University of Minnesota. He was united in marriage on December 29, 1967 in St. Paul to Mary Elizabeth Wilhelmy. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Eric; and daughter, Christina. John worked for Andersen Windows as Personnel Manager for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
John enjoyed running, accomplishing 8 marathons; reading, his favorite author being Clive Cussler, doing puzzles and travelling. He was an active member of Shepherd of the Valley Church in Afton, being a part of the church council, and truly appreciated the friendships of his church family. Most important to John was his family. He loved his time with his grandchildren and cherished their trips to Disney together as a family.
John will forever remain in the hearts of his loving wife, Mary Beth; son, Eric (Leta) of Lakeville, MN; daughter, Christina (Robert) Vorpahl of Mansfield, TX; his pride and joy, his grandchildren: Sophia, Brennan, Meredith, Elliot, Aidan, Jenna and Alaina; his sisters, Marion (Howard) Christie of Goodhue, MN and Linda (Dick) Velske of Faribault, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Pauline Jensen.
Funeral Services will take place 1:00 PM Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 14107 S. Hudson Rd., Afton, with Pastor Steve Kramer officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Pallbearers assisting with the services will be: Tom Lyon, Brett Stringer, Robert Vorpahl, Eric Jensen, Dave Kell, Brennan Jensen, Aidan Vorpahl, and Elliot Jensen. Memorials are preferred in John’s name to Feed My Starving Children. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson (715) 386-3725.
