Lorraine D. Ernst, age 96, was born in northern Minnesota in 1918, and died June 11, 2015. She married Marcell Ernst in 1942 and moved to Danvers, MN, her husband’s home town. From there, they went to Mankato, MN, where they lived until they retired and headed to the southwest. One of her greatest joys was traveling with her husband in their RV and living for many years in the warm climate of Mesa, AZ, and Boulder City, NV, before coming home to Minnesota after his death in 1999.
For most of her career, Lorraine worked as an accountant at Ramys Seed Company and Northwestern Bank. She was the very definition of “having never met a person she didn’t like.” She loved meeting new people and hearing their life stories and relished the time she spent with friends and family. In her free time, she enjoyed needlework and was a gifted seamstress. She cherished her time in the President’s Club with Avon, and was a dog lover, especially her Toy Boston Terrier, Penny. She loved being outdoors amid the trees, flowers, and birds and delighted in watching the clouds roll across the sky.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Marcia Hansen of Woodbury, MN, Jack Ernst of San Pedro, CA, Bill (Mary) Ernst of Anoka, MN, and Steve Ernst of San Pedro, CA; grandchildren: Chris (Carrie) Hansen, Jennifer (Tim) Thomas, Lori (Ron) Llopis, Lisa Hansen, Becky (Kevin) Sundberg, and Joshua (Laura) Ernst; 2 great-grandchildren, Joseph Sundberg and Summer Llopis; and nieces, Mary Jo (Ken) Volker and Debbie Poderzay. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcell J. Ernst; parents, William “Bill” and Rose Kutcher; sister, Phyllis (Kutcher) Poderzay; and nephew, William Poderzay.
