Lucille Gearhart

Lucy Gearhart was born January 3, 1928, to John and Loretta Schmid in Hubbard County, Minnesota. When she was a small child the family moved to Holcombe, Wisconsin, where she was graduated at the top of her class from Holcombe High School in 1945. She enrolled at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire that fall and attended there two years before transferring to the University of Minnesota and later the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. On February 4, 1946, at Rice Lake, she was married to Philip Gearhart. In the fall of 1948 they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, where she began her Federal Government career in 1953. While in Fergus Falls she was active in Mrs. Jaycees, Church circles, Civic Orchestra, and the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1962. They moved to St. Paul in 1962 and to Hudson in 1971. She retired from Federal Government service in 1983 and that fall began a second career as a REALTOR with Century 21 Premier Group. In 1989 she was named REALTOR of the Year by the Western Wisconsin Board of Realtors. In September 1998 she retired for the last time after two careers spanning 45 years. Squeak enjoyed all kinds of sports and was a Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, and Gophers fan. She loved to water ski and was still slalom skiing at age 65. She enjoyed playing cribbage, dominoes, and other board games. She served on the Board of Directors of the Christian Community Home for seven years and also served on the Board of Directors for the Eastport Condominium Association and was President of the Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, on February 13, 1996, her parents, and two brothers, She is survived by her brother-in-law, Roger Gearhart of Red Wing, Minnesota, and three nephews, Dann Gearhart of Oakdale, Dean Gearhart of Red Wing, and David Gearhart of Bloomington. She also leaves behind a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held from the United Methodist Church in Hudson on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m with Pastors Ruwal Freese and Bruce Stunkard officiating. Musicians will include Mary Post, Adele Dolan, and Jim Sharer. Eulogies will be offered by Randy Cudd and JoAnn Longen. Burial in Roselawn. Cemetery in Roseville, Minnesota. Honorary casketbearers will be Darrell Youngberg, Dave Petersen, Dave Brathal, Larry Parfitt, Doug Torgerson, and Dave Anderson with active casketbearers being Craig Frisvold, John DeGraff, Jim Dopkins, Dave Krear, Dale Schmidt, and Sam Johnson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Hudson, Wisconsin. Memorials preferred.
