4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI.

Marian ”Babe”” Dorothy (Webster) Howard, age 90, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Hudson, died on September 7, 2015, at the Bentson Family Assisted Living Residence of the Sholom Home in St. Paul, MN.

Marian was born on November 25, 1924 in Hudson, WI, to parents Charles and Marian (Thorn) Webster. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1943. Marian was married to Edward “Buddy” Kermott on October 26, 1946 in Hudson. She operated Hudson’s first kindergarten in the basement of their home on 3rd Street in the 1950’s, allowing Marian to also raise their three daughters; Pamela, Claudia and Katharine. In 1958, the couple divorced and Marian moved to St. Paul, MN where she continued working as a kindergarten teacher. She earned a BA in Teaching from Macalester College in St. Paul. Marian’s graduation ceremony was the morning of August 3, 1962; later that afternoon she was united in marriage to Paul Howard. In 1963 the family moved to Wheaton, IL before moving to Fort Worth, TX in 1967. Marian worked with special needs children at the Child Study Center in Ft Worth until retiring. Marian volunteered at the Edna Gladney Home. During that time, the young ladies Marian worked with were invited to the Howard house for Thanksgiving dinner. In 2007 they moved to The Lutheran Home in River Falls. After Paul died in 2010, Marian moved back to St. Paul.

Marian was a generous and kind person who truly loved her family. She had many friends and was greatly loved by everyone she met. Marian enjoyed traveling, attending plays, and listening to live jazz music. She was also very creative; making scrapbooks for her grandchildren, sewing quilts, and was a master at needle work.

Marian will remain of the hearts of her daughters, Pamela K. Wasson of Fort Worth TX, Claudia (Lynn) Rhymes of Santa Rosa CA, and Katharine Kermott (John Ahern) of St. Paul MN; step-children, Gordon Howard of Eau Claire WI, and Laura Rush of Cameron WI; 12 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids; sister, Helen Samson of FL; nieces, other relatives and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Howard, and her parents.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Sholom’s Hospice team who gave Marian comfort during her final days. A very special heartfelt thank you to Nurse Rick, all of the Memory Care aides, and all others who touched her life. Your gentle care and positive spirit will never be forgotten. Thank you.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the charity of your choice in Marian’s honor.

    • Sending my sympathies to Babe’s children…Pam, Claudia, Katherine, Gordon & Laura. My 1st real Babysitting job was for you 3 girls at the 3rd street house on the corner of River St. Your Dad always walked me home, no matter how late. Babe was always one of my favorite people with her enthusiasm, whit, edgy sarcasm and hearty laugh. I know how you all will miss her. Wishing you all well, Linda Lahl Rorvick, (Glen & Lorraine Lahl’s oldest daughter)
