Mary Francis Hoel, age 89, of Hudson, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Gables at Boutwell’s Landing in Oak Park Heights, Minn.

Mary was born on Feb. 8, 1922, in North Hudson, the daughter of William and Katherine (Cunningham) Cameron. She was raised in Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in 1940. In 1943, she enlisted in the Armed Forces and proudly served in the United States Navy Waves. On May 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to her best friend and soul mate, George Hoel, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson.

She was a devoted homemaker who loved her family.  She was a dedicated member of St. Patrick’s, belonging to the Ladies Guild. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Christian Community Home Auxiliary. She loved entertaining and cooking as well as bird watching. Her greatest love came from spending time with George and traveling about with him.

Mary will remain in the hearts of her husband, George; children, Dan Hoel (special friend Diane Samuelson) of Hudson, Tom (Susan) Hoel of Woodbury, Cathy (Tim) Lange of New Richmond, Pat (Phyllis) Hoel of Hudson, Judy (John) Wallace of Afton; grandchildren, Anthony Hoel, Matthew Hoel, Meghan Hoel, Kate Lange, Mamie Lange, Lola Wallace; brother John (Mary) Cameron of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Kukuska; and brothers Ken, Bob, Lyle, and Don Cameron.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Hoel was 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., also at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Hudson. Burial was in the parish cemetery with full military honors by the Hudson American Legion and VFW Posts. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Mary’s family.

Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
