Melvin Johannsen age 86 of Spring Valley, formerly of Hudson died Monday February 23rd at the Spring Valley Healthcare Center. Melvin was born on January 19, 1929 in River Falls, Wisconsin; the son of LeRoy and Dorothy (Kohl) Johannsen. Although Melvin was developmentally disabled, it never slowed him down. Many will remembered him shoveling half of Hudson when he was younger, or helping his dad dig graves. He was always up for any odd jobs. He enjoyed his friends, good music, watch collection, and his stuffed dogs. He loved his family and took great care in tending to his grandfather when his health was declining.

Melvin is survived by his brother Alfred Johannsen, sister-in-law Maxine Johannsen; nieces and nephews Matt Johannsen, Anna (Paul) Johnson, LeRoy (Mary) Johannsen Jr., Linda (Glen) Seierstad, Lowell Johannsen; as well as many great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Dorothy; brother LeRoy; sister-in-law Jeanne Johannsen.

Funeral services for Melvin Johannsen will be 4:00PM Friday February 27th at The O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson with Fr. Guy Usher officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior the service at O’Connell’s. Interment will be in the Willow River Cemetery. Memorials are preferred.
