Myrtle Wieland

Myrtle Wieland age 85 of Baldwin died Friday November 9 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. Myrtle was born on February 6, 1927 in Remer, Minnesota; the daughter of Amile andAbigail (McMillan) Baker. She was raised in Remer where she received her schooling. She would further her education by receiving her Nurses Aid degree. She was married to George Mix to which daughter Lorraine was born. This union would later dissolve. She moved to St. Paul where she worked as a nurses aid for Mounds View Hospital. She also worked for Field Schleck Department Store. She was united in marriage to Virgil Wieland. Together, they had children Carol, Mike, and Karen. She would leave the nursing field to tend to their children and family as a homemaker. Virgil would precede her in death in 1981. She would return to work as a home health aid in St. Paul. She moved to Baldwin to be closer to her children. Myrtle enjoyed her crafts. She enjoyed crocheting; especially teaching others how to crochet. She made mittens and afghans forothers or needy children. She liked camping with family and had a soft spot in her heart for horses. She was a proud member of the Lady Bugs who visited veterans at hospitals or old soldiers homes.

Myrtle is survived by her children Carol (Dan) Bodish of Hammond, Mike (Kaye) Wieland of Baldwin, Karen Wieland of St. Paul, Lorraine Mix of St. Paul, sister Bernice Booth of Minneapolis, grandchildren Maggie Bodish, Savannah Bodish, and Macy Wieland. She is preceded in death by her husband Virgil, and siblings Lilian, Lottie, Raymond, Arley, Frank, Edna, Wilbur, Grace, and Ruth.

Funeral service for Myrtle will be 11AM Thursday November 15 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. Burial will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday morning. Memorials are preferred.
