Sherry Slininger, age 79, of Hudson, WI, passed away on June 15, 2016 at the Kinnic Health and Rehab Center in River Falls, WI.

Sherry was born on December 18, 1936 in Eau Claire, WI to Basil and Evelyn (McSorley) Mathews. Along with her brother, Vaughn and sister, Dorothy, she grew up in Eau Claire, graduating from Eau Claire Memorial High School. She met Robert L. Slininger, and they would later be married on November 9, 1957. Robert and Sherry moved to St. Paul, MN briefly before moving to Hudson where they raised their four children: Dianne, Susette, Kenneth, and Collene. Sherry was a homemaker when the kids were younger, and resumed her career as a bookkeeper at Tru Value when they were school aged.

Sherry was an avid reader and could get lost in any fiction or romance novel. When she wasn’t reading, she was out in her garden, tending to her irises, lilies, and bleeding hearts. She loved feeding the visiting birds, while at the same time trying to keep the pesky squirrels away! In the winter season, she enjoyed making ornaments as well. Above everything, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sherry was an active member of the Hudson United Methodist Church for many years.

She will be dearly missed by her children: Dianne (Wayne) Ekblad of Alexandria, VA, Susette (Jim) Offermann of West Fargo, ND, Kenneth Slininger of Hudson, WI, and Collene (Rory) Marske of Somerset, WI; 4 grandchildren: Alexandra Marske, Erin (Justin) Hersch, Jennifer Marske, and Rylee Offermann; and brother, Vaughn (Loraine) Mathews of Eau Claire, WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and sister, Dorothy (Richard) Bellesbach.

A Memorial Service for Sherry will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St, Hudson, with a gathering of friends and family held two hours prior to the service, starting at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. Memorials are preferred to the family.

    • Sherry was my neighbor, down the hall, at Boulder Ridge and I always enjoyed speaking with her, and I am sure I speak for all the people at Boulder Ridge who knew her, in our years together, that she was a joy to have around. We will miss her. God Bless her and her family at this time of sadness.

    • I worked with your mom at Wal-Mart! I loved the days I could work Layaway with her. I absolutely loved her spunk and “tell it like it is” attitude! She was a wonderful person to work with and I loved to visit and laugh with her. I cherish the ornaments she made for me and love adding them to my tree every year. I think of your mom often, especially the time I helped Colleen take off the storm windows and put screens on the house. She was a good boss!! HA! HA! I also enjoyed the times I would meet her for lunch or supper when I was in the area. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I know you all have many memories to cherish! Take Care! Renee

    • Will always remember her laugh and glad I got some of her handmade Christmas ornaments
