Stephen ‘Steve’ Sabol

Stephen “Steve” Sabol, age 73 of Hudson and formerly of Baldwin, died on Wednesday, December 17th at the Comforts of Home Assisted Living in Hudson. Steve was born May 13, 1941 in Minneapolis MN to parents George John, and Verna Geneva (Holcomb) Sabol. Steve would graduate from Princeton (MN) High School before serving his country in the United States Army. Steve would be united in marriage to Carol Krogh. It would bless Steve with his two children, Paul and Annette.

Steve furthered his education at UW River Falls, where he earned his Bachelors degree, and then at UW Stout, where he earned his Masters degree in counseling. Though Steve did work as a machinist, it was later that he worked at Burkwood Treatment Center as a mental health professional, and drug and alcohol counselor. Many knew Steve, and those who know him well, know how proud he was of his own 27 years of sobriety. Outside of work, Steve enjoyed fishing, reading, singing, painting, puzzles, and woodworking, especially making toy cars, trucks, and the occasional train.

Steve is survived by his children: son, Paul (Shannon); daughter, Annette; grandsons, Alex and Donavan; granddaughter, Cassandra; sisters, Ann (Dan) Logeais, and Ginny (Gene) Larsen; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Verna; and his brother, George Jr.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 21st from 4:00-7:00pm, with a 7:00pm Service of Remembrance, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery – Assembly Area #5.
