LeRoy Edward Tobias, age 100, died peacefully on Sept 25, 2021. His family kept vigil with him day and night in his final days on earth.
LeRoy was born on Sept 4, 1921, in River Falls, WI, to Edward and Theresa “Tress” (Matzek) Tobias. He grew up in the Big River/ Prescott area and graduated from Prescott High School. He served four years in the US Navy during WWII, and saw action in the Battle of Okinawa. In younger days, he operated the Standard Oil station, was a bridge tender, and had a knack for painting wooden blinds at the mill. He attended school in Minneapolis for wood working, and many houses in town have the best built, sturdiest custom cabinets anywhere. On May 1, 1946, he married Teresa Pauline Schommer. Together they raised 4 children. He worked several years for 3M, retiring at age 62.
LeRoy was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church. He was a faithful man who carried a rosary in his pocket every day. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with family and card playing get togethers. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. LeRoy and Teresa were married 65 years and enjoyed a long retirement together, spending much time at their summer cabin. He was a loving, humble man and kept his sense of humor through thick and thin. Time with family trumped all pleasures.
He is survived by his 4 children, Gerald Tobias, Tom (Sharon) Tobias, Andy (Deb) Tobias, and Maria (Joel) Reis, grandchildren John Lubinsky, Karen (Richard) Beskau, Mike (Peggi) Tobias, Jennifer (Brandon) Boleen, Ryan (Kristin) Tobias, Eric Tobias, Justin (Jessica) Tobias, Tressa (Chris) Klenc, Ben (Ellie Maione) Reis, and Josh (Billy Johnson) Reis, 16 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, brother Dick (Ann) Tobias, sister Kathleen Johnson, sister-in-law Pat Tobias, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Teresa, brothers LaVerne and Marc Tobias, sister Helen Jean Hackett, daughter-in-law Mary Tobias, and grandson Todd Lubinsky.
